<description>We lost a senior dog to mast cell cancer nearly 17 years ago, and it was a devastating experience. We&#039;re so sorry for your loss, but very much appreciate your having shared your experience with us.

<description>Thanks for sharing the warning signs for canine cancer. We lost a dear dog to cancer just over a year ago and we still miss his so. However, when I first felt that terrible lump I recognized it immediately.

We got him to the vet immediately and opted for surgery. It was mast cell cancer. He was past middle age and the prognosis was not good but our guy pulled thru with flying colors.

He gave us another 3 plus years of joy.

Eventually it became more and more difficult for him to get around but he was a trooper. He never complained. As his best friend I knew when he was ready for him to leave us. He went peacefully in my arms with his litter mate by his side.

Just like with humans, early detection is the answer. Be aware of any changes in your pets behavior and when petting or grooming, pay attention to what your hands are telling you.

God Bless
